I don’t know about you, but I have a strong tendency towards comfort. I like easy, and I think that’s something we can all relate to on some level. One of my mentors wrote a book on this topic, and it holds so true for our world today. The world expects so little of us nowadays, and we often live up to those expectations. We don’t usually aim for exceptional. Acceptable is the target we most often aim for and yet if we’re honest a lot of times we still miss that. We are capable of much more than we believe we are, and we can actually handle a lot more than we think we can. We often daydream about more–and yet, well here I am right now scrolling through social media on my phone.
So I wanted to do something about it.
Amidst the endless rush of content, I found I was asking myself the question, what do you do with all of it? How do you escape the loop?
I don’t want to live an easy life. Or rather, the parts of me that do, aren’t the parts of me I want to be. That doesn’t really make sense, but I know y’all get it. Escaping the loop, the vicious cycle of wasted time and lost dreams–it comes at a cost. It won’t be easy, and I think that’s the point. That it will actually be the very opposite that breaks the loop. Doing hard things.
You can’t do the same old thing and expect to start getting different results. To live a purposeful life requires doing hard things.
Around this time last year my mind was bombarded with the same idea, over and over again. It wouldn’t go away. At its core, it was this–what if, every single day of the month of February (ironically the shortest month) I created something meaningful and purposeful every single day. Something that mattered. If you’re like me, much of my free time is pretty easily consumed by purposeless content, things that don’t inspire or challenge me. All it takes is one video, or paragraph–something intentional–to cause me to step back and set my mind to the task at hand.
So this is the plan:
Create something meaningful every day of February.
It’s my hope and prayer that whatever this month shapes up to be, I would be able to create something meaningful, purposeful, and intentional every single day of this month. More than that, really I’m hoping that this will help encourage and challenge you, and push you to grow more as a person, in your relationship with God, and in your relationships with others. I’m calling it the February Project, just because I think it sounds way cooler if you put it to some name like that. Really, it’s not going to be too elaborate. I had some crazy ideas, but I don’t have the margin carved out for it quite yet, and I definitely don’t have the resources and time for some of my wackier concepts.
With all that said, I’ll unpack super quick for ya what I think that will look like. It’s gonna unfold over the course of this month every day in one of (mostly) three different places.
1. the blog (you are here)
This is where you’re at, and this is one of the three main areas I’ll be developing. I want this place to grow into a consistent braindump collection of (hopefully) inspiring thoughts, challenges, stories, and recaps that capture our imagination together. I’m going to be working on this as a space to organise all my ideas, and hopefully build out some community here! If you can’t tell, I’m pretty excited about all of this.
2. the insta
Instagram has always been a double sided coin, it has some phenomenal stuff on there that makes me think and want to grow, but it’s also got a lot of stuff that is just filler–it doesn’t matter. I don’t remember it a minute later. BUT… it can be redeemed, and I fully believe this. It starts with creating mindfully, and engaging intentionally. I don’t know how much I’ll post on there, but I wanted to add it here because that’s one of the areas I’ll be building, and I want to be more thoughtful about it! So come and join me! I’ll link it here!
3. the channel
I’m excited about this one. I think Youtube more than just about anything else gets my creative gears turning like crazy, but I’m often not consistent enough to get good, or build community on there. And so with that, my goal this month is to start posting some stuff that I’m really proud of consistently. Nothing crazy, but humble, steady beginnings. Let’s get it. You can find my YouTube channel (and my first proper video) right here!
What’s next?
Creating something every single day takes work. I have no doubts that this will teach me a lot of lessons along the way. It probably won’t be the most polished campaign ever, but it’s my heartfelt prayer that all this would simply honour God and inspire people. That’s my starting point, and where the adventure begins. I’ll try to update y’all on where I’m at every day in some way, shape, or form. Until tomorrow, my fellow buckaroos. 🤟
