Jonathan rolled over on his back. His bed on the Mayflower was small and uncomfortable, but it was better than nothing. His 9-year-old sister, Lucia, placed a small, cold, cloth on his head. “You’re getting better,” she said gently. She handed him a small bowl of cornmeal. “Here’s your breakfast,” she said. He sat up and had some of the cornmeal. “Thanks, Lucia,” Jonathan replied in response to the suprising tastiness of the meal. When he finished, Lucia said, “Come on, let’s go play on the main deck. Captain Christopher says it’s a nice day. I’ll help you get up.” “Thanks,” Jonathan replied.
